Terrific performances and gorgeous scenery are two very big reasons to enjoy this engaging adaptation of a novel by Italian-Canadian writer Kenneth Canio Cancellara. Perhaps best known for his Emmy-award winning role in The Sopranos, Joe Pantoliano stars as a business executive who impulsively leaves his job in Canada to return to the small town in Italy and have a go at reviving his grandfather’s vineyard. There’s no shortage of people telling him that he’s just a dreamer but even his initially skeptical wife (played by the great Wendy Crewson) is enchanted by this place and the people there. Audiences for director Sean Cisterna’s ebullient comedy are just as likely to fall under the spell.
Sean Cisterna is a multi award-winning Canadian filmmaker who recently produced and directed From the Vine (2019), an international coproduction set around the world of Italian wine, starring Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano. Cisterna produced and directed the critically acclaimed teen cancer drama Kiss and Cry (2017), which topped the English-Canadian box office upon its release, and is currently streaming on Netflix to emotional worldwide audiences. His 2015 project Full Out, starring the iconic Jennifer Beals, is a feature based on the true story of gymnast Ariana Berlin, also on Netflix, as well as NBC and Lifetime in the U.S., and Disney Europe. In 2017, Cisterna was awarded a Canada 150 Citizenship Award for Thought Leadership by the Federal Government for his dedication to and community engagement in the arts.
