Simone Urdl has been producing feature films for over 20 years. She is a founding partner of Toronto-based production company The Film Farm with partner Jennifer Weiss. Over the company’s twenty-year history, Simone and Jennifer have built a reputation for nurturing creativity and supporting the unique and diverse vision of their writers and filmmakers. Specializing in director-driven, intelligent and entertaining content with a global perspective, they have built an impressive catalogue of over 20 films. They have twice been invited to screen in Official Competition in Cannes (Adoration and The Captive, both Atom Egoyan); their film Redacted (Brian De Palma) won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival; Away From Her (Sarah Polley) was nominated for two Oscars and won a Golden Globe for Julie Christie; Luck (Peter Wellington) won the Best Narrative Feature Film Award at South By Southwest. Their films Falls Around Her (Darlene Naponse), Octavio is Dead! (Sook-Yin Lee) Foxfire (Laurent Cantet), Daydream Nation (Mike Goldbach) and Chloe (Atom Egoyan) have seen success around the world in theatres and at festivals such as TIFF, Sundance, Berlin, ImagineNATIVE, San Sebastian, New York, Telluride, Locarno and Los Cabos. They recently completed production on Atom Egoyan’s next film Guest of Honour and have teamed up with Studio Canal and Blueprint Pictures in the UK on the film adaptation of Jojo Moyes The Last Letter From Your Lover. Simone and Jennifer are the recipients of the 2018 CMPA Indiescreen Producer’s Award. Simone is a graduate of the Film and Media Department of Queen’s University.
