WRONG HUSBAND

A quarter-century since the Inuit artist and filmmaker’s landmark debut feature ATANARJUAT: THE FAST RUNNER, Zacharias Kunuk demonstrates his enduring ability to amaze and enthrall audiences with one of his most audacious features to date. Set 4,000 years ago, the director’s latest tells the time-honoured tale of young lovers who are separated due to the vagaries of fate and the machinations of evildoers. Ready to do anything to be together again, Kaujak (Theresia Kappianaq) and Sapa (Haiden Angutimarik) look for help from a shaman whose magical ways are just one aspect of the fantastical nature of the fable at hand. Combining the incredible Arctic landscapes audiences expect of his films with a not-so-expected array of visual effects, Kunuk’s fantasy drama – which won the Best Canadian Feature Film Award at TIFF – is genuinely like nothing viewers have ever seen.
