A startling and moving debut feature by two longtime figures in the Inuit film and arts community, this drama seeks to convey greater truths by blurring any easily discernible distinction between the fictional lives of the characters on screen and the lived realities of the film’s extraordinary creators. Collaborators who first met while working on Zacharias Kunuk’s THE JOURNALS OF KNUD RASMUSSEN, directors Lucy Tulgarjuk and Carol Kunnuk play Uyarak and Saqpinak, two sisters whose close bond becomes an invaluable source of strength as the COVID-19 lockdowns intensify present-day pressures in their families and communities and revive past memories of trauma and abuse. Named as one of Canada’s Top Ten films, Tulugarjuk and Kunnuk’s film conveys the experiences of their characters with immense care and empathy.
