Kingston Canadian Film Festival Announces New KCFF Doc Factory Program to Platform and Mentor Emerging Local Documentary Filmmakers

The Kingston Canadian Film Festival launched KCFF Doc Factory, a hands-on program that aims to provide local filmmakers of all backgrounds with the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking. The largest festival in the world dedicated exclusively to Canadian film, KCFF will debut the inaugural ten projects from KCFF Doc Factory in its 25th anniversary program running February 26 – March 2, 2025.

Throughout the course of their time with KCFF Doc Factory, participants learn about everything from influential documentary film movements and the leading figures in their field, to practical, on-the-ground training that will elevate their film production skills.

The projects explore a range of subjects from historical landmarks to the housing crisis in Kingston.

This year’s KCFF Doc Factory films/filmmakers include:

  • Good Trouble in Canada: From Lab to Love by Mike Jourard
  • From Tigris to St. Lawrence River by Hanan Zeineldin
  • Give Me Shelter by Jason Eade
  • Spray The Change by Juan Velasco
  • Madocian by Daniel Husbands
  • We Are Happy to Serve You: The S&R Story by Alec Ross
  • To Labour With Love by Kaycee Hargadon
  • Steel & Hope by Juan Huerta
  • Today Is A Gift by David Rendall

KCFF is proud to create programs like KCFF Doc Factory to support local filmmakers at all stages of their career. Other programs that will premiere at KCFF this year include the 18 MM Program and the Slaight Music Video Program.

The 18 MM Program aims to train and mentor Kingston-based youth over a 9-month span. This initiative provides youth with filmmaking fundamentals and culminates in the screening of their short films during the yearly Festival. The Slaight Music Video Program pairs local musicians with local production companies for professionally-made music videos, intersecting disciplines and bridging new connections.
