Details
Darlene Naponse’s new feature marks a bold and thrilling departure from Falls Around Her (KCFF19) – the much-celebrated showcase of the talents of Tantoo Cardinal. Indeed, this stylish and enigmatic drama by Anishinaabe writer-director Naponse is unlike anything else you’ll see at KCFF this year. Heading the cast this time is Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, the incredible actor, activist and director who appeared in two films at KCFF22: Night Raiders and Kímmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy. She and Braeden Clarke play two characters known only as She and He, who seem curiously unconcerned about the catastrophes unfolding outside the Northern Ontario bar where they spend their evening. While the meaning of these events and the details of the characters’ histories remain cloaked in mystery, the film’s intoxicating atmosphere and stunning visuals add to the power and allure of Naponse’s contemporary Indigenous re-envisioning of a screen romance.
