An actor best known to viewers for his roles on House of Cards, Castle Rock and Boardwalk Empire, Paul Sparks gives a haunting performance as a farm worker whose mind and life begin to unravel in the face of the pressures he encounters in this slow-burn psychological drama by director Kyle Armstrong. The desolate setting of early-‘80s Alberta adds to the unnerving atmosphere of Armstrong’s distinctive slice of prairie gothic, which co-stars Susan Kent, Will Oldham and the great Bruce Dern as other members of a rural community that seems increasingly beset by darker, more menacing undercurrents.
