Fan of short films? It’s your lucky Festival!

KCFF’18 includes more shorts than ever before.  We’ve expanded our popular CANADIAN SHORTS program to three separate packages of professionally-made short films, all carefully curated from across the country.  This year, you will determine the Best Canadian Short of the Festival. Just like our Limestone Financial People’s Choice Award, the scores for each short film will be tallied after the screening announced at our AWARDS RECEPTION.

Exploring her indigenous lineage, language, and storytelling through multi-layered, multi-media stop motion films, Amanda Strong’s work has screened across the globe including appearances at Cannes, TIFF, VIFF, and Ottawa International Animation Festival.  SPOTLIGHT ON: AMANDA STRONG will feature a number of Amanda’s films plus three shorts from Wapikoni Mobile artists Meky Ottawa, Heather Condo, and Natasha Kanapé Fontaine.

There are a few ways you can catch LOCAL SHORTS at KCFF.  MINUTES are shorter and we play them before a feature film. EPICS are longer shorts packaged together and played back-to-back — we have so many shorts this year there will be 2 packages!  If you attend our YOUTH SHORTS screening you might even witness a Canadian film legend (or two) in the making!

All of the short films are in the running for awards and the winners will be announced at our AWARDS RECEPTION on Sunday, March 4, 8 pm at the Tir Nan Og — free for everyone!  Come down to the ‘n Og and join us for the biggest Awards party yet.  Thom Ersnt will be here to present the awards, we’ll have some apps and a cash bar … but drinks are on us if you have a FESTIVAL PASS!
