In celebration of our 15th anniversary we launched the new YOUTH SHORTS program that showcased the next generation of Canadian filmmakers. This year, we’re building on the incredible success of our inaugural year and are currently accepting submissions from local filmmakers 17 and under for consideration in the program. Films should be 10 minutes or less and can be produced by a single student, group, or class collaboration.
- Participants must be 17 and under as of February 25, 2016 (the festival start date)
- Films must be received by January 8, 2016
NEW FOR 2016: ALL ENTRIES WILL BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY

STEP 2 >> Email it to firstname.lastname@example.org with the ‘Youth Shorts submission’ in the subject line. For selection purposes, we require access to a password-protected online screener. There is no submission fee for this program. Preference will be given to new films making their “debut” during the festival, though other films will be considered. We will accept all submissions, however we will consider the appropriateness of work for audiences of all ages (including children) when selecting the films.
Filmmakers are encouraged to attend their screening on behalf of their film and are provided with free tickets to their showcase.
All films chosen for the festival will be eligible for a cash prize for Best Youth Short, presented during an awards reception at KCFF’16!
We require a digital copy of your film to be used for festival screening purposes. An online link to an HD .mp4 file using the H264 codec is the preferred format but a DVD (Data DVD not a Playable DVD), USB Key. The video link must be active until March 1, 2016.
