With a catalogue built upon razor-sharp lyricism, and unforgettable melodies, Ron Hawkins has long been revered as one of Canada’s greatest contemporary singer-songwriters. As lead singer/multi-instrumentalist and main songwriter of Canada’s legendary Lowest of the Low, Ron Hawkins has enjoyed many accolades through the years. With the 20th anniversary re-release of Shakespeare My Butt, Hawkins and his old band mates took to the road once again and completed a spring 2011 tour culminating in a career highlight performance at a sold out Massey Hall.

In the mid to late nineties Canada was experiencing an indie rock explosion. Long before the internet drew international attention northward to the likes of Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene, a handful of Canadian bands were building an exciting sound – something altogether unique from the rest of the world. At the epicenter of this churning bubble was By Divine Right. Centered around the psychedelic song writing of Jose Contreras, By Divine Right’s line-up was ever evolving. Ranging between tight pop perfection and all-out noise hysteria, the band has included the talent of later musical crusaders such as Broken Social Scene‘s Brendan Canning and Feist.  Full bio HERE!Jose Contreras appears in a lead role in Porch Stories – screening at the festival this season!Lighten up people! Lederhosen Lucil, the campy alter ego of Montreal’s Krista Muir (born in Kingston!), will charm your pants off with her zany, genre-bending pop ditties last heard on her 2013 bilingual release “Guten Tag Gemini.”

Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor first released a solo record in 1997 with Gone, an album he wrote while searching for his birth mother in Cape Breton, NS. In 2005, Greg released Seven Songs For Jim, an intimate collection of songs he wrote in tribute to his father. With the completion of Aphrodite Rose, Greg has created the perfect trilogy.  An album of psychedelic country and retro pop, this is a record that soars with jangly guitars and draws the listener in with intimate lyrics and nuanced performances. A record that can break your heart one moment and lift it the next, Aphrodite Rose is quintessential Greg Keelor.KCFF is delighted to host the inaugural presentation of Goin’ Home: a night with Greg Keelor!  The show will consist of music, stories, photography, film and conversation.  A rare and intimate opportunity for Blue Rodeo and Greg Keelor fans.
